Emma Raducanu received her MBE from King Charles during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, the BBC reports.
MBE stands for the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and is given to someone who makes extraordinary contributions in a certain field. Raducanu received her MBE for services to tennis. Her name was added to the 2022 honors list after her historic 2021 U.S. Open win.
According to The Daily Mail, the tennis star wore a Dior outfit to the ceremony as she is an ambassador for the brand.
“It’s been great to receive my honor today from his Majesty the King – I feel extremely grateful,” Raducanu said in a statement via her agent, Tennis World reports.
Labour MP Dame Nia Griffith was happy to see a young person being praised for their success.
“And I certainly think it is wonderful to see young people being praised and being rewarded and let’s make sure we give every young person the opportunities so that they can develop their talents to the full,” she told BBC.
