Police in Medellin, Colombia say they arrested three people in the death of Paul Nguyen of Orange County, California, reports Vice.
Nguyen visited Medellin while on vacation in November. He shared a photo of a woman he met on Tinder and shared it on Snapchat. The next morning police found his body in a dumpster and suspect he was a victim of a wave of honeytrap robberies around Colombia.
Authorities say they’ve arrested Evelyn Henao Herrera and two male accomplices for the murder of Nguyen.
Unilad reports that Herrera, 21, and César Augusto Mendoza López, 28, face charges of aggravated homicide and robbery. Bryan Taborda Herrera, 25, has been charged with aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
“We mourn every day and continue to do so until justice is met,” Paul Nguyen’s sister, Amy, told VICE World News. “Hearing that we might finally get justice for Paul flickers a new hope.”
When Nguyen didn’t return to his AirBnb that night, his friend phoned Nguyen’s family who soon noticed someone had charged Nguyen’s credit card with unusual transactions late into the night. Authorities suspect Nguyen was drugged at some point during the date.
“Sometimes the victim does not lose consciousness, does not lose will, begins to become aware of what is happening, so they go on to administer much more drugs,” explained Jorge Wilson, a local private investigator said to Vice.
A total of 41 drug-related robberies have been reported in Medellin so far this year.
