A University of California at Davis senior scheduled to graduate in 10 days has been identified as a victim of a fatal stabbing.
CBS News reports he’s been identified as 20-year-old Karim Abou-Najm. Someone discovered his body in Sycamore Park Saturday night. He’s the second murder victim found in a park in four days.
Police urge everyone not to jump to conclusions.
“It’s just far too early and we do not have enough information to make that kind of connection or determination at this point,” Davis Police Department Lt. Dan Beckwith said to KCRA. “We’ve brought in every investigator we have. We’ve been working with our local partners, and we’ve begun reaching out to federal agencies to assist us in this process.”
The suspect is described as a “light-skinned male between 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 5 feet, 8 inches tall and between the ages of 19 to 23, reported Fox40.
Police have not drawn a definitive connection to last Thursday’s death of 50-year-old David Henry Breaux, who like Abou-Najm, was also stabbed.
“Everyone’s really scared, I have seen a lot on social media that no one even wants to go to school,” said UC Davis senior Kristin Mifsud to CBS.
Friends remember Abou-Najm fondly.
“He had so many honors. He was going to a bright future, and it was just taken away from him,” said graduate student Karan Brar.
