Multiple caucuses pen letter to support Julie Su nomination

Members of four Congressional caucuses have written a letter to Senate leadership in support of Julie Su’s confirmation as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.

President Joe Biden nominated Su for the position in February but her confirmation has been met with opposition from Senate Republicans as well as Democratic Senators, Montana Sen. Jon Tester and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, who are both up for re-election in red states.

On Monday, May 8, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Democratic Women’s Caucus sent a letter to Senate leadership expressing their “strong support for the swift confirmation” of Su as the next Labor Secretary.

In the letter, they outlined Su’s extensive experience working in labor departments. The former lawyer has served as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor, Secretary of California’s Labor and Workforce Development Agency and California Labor Commissioner.

“Given her demonstrated leadership experience, strong and genuine engagement with the small business community, and unrelenting dedication to workers’ rights and good middle-class jobs, Acting Secretary Su is the best candidate to be our nation’s next Secretary of Labor,” the caucuses wrote in the closing paragraph of their letter.

“She has the support of leading diverse business organizations and labor unions. We urge the Senate to confirm her nomination without delay so that businesses, employers, working families, and job seekers across the nation get the full attention and support they need.”
