Suspect arrested in arson at a mosque in St. Paul

St. Paul Police in Minnesota arrested a suspect this morning in a weekend fire at the Oromo American Tawhid Islamic Center.

Said Ntamugabumwe, 42, faces charges of first-degree arson, reports Patch.

Damage to the mosque is described as extensive by Deputy Chief Roy Mokosso, reports KARE11.

I’m disgusted,” St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said. “We do not tolerate attacks against our communities of faith. An attack against one of us is really an attack against all of us.”

The mosque was empty at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported. The Star Tribune reports its the sixth fire at a mosque in Minnesota this year.

“We’re on edge, and we need the public’s help once the suspect is defined to help capture this individual,” Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Minnesota chapter,
