An aide of Donald Trump has been indicted with the former president in the classified documents case, reports CNN.
Walt Nauta faces 6 counts, including obstruction charges, in connection with keeping national defense information.
He is described by NBC News as Trump’s butler and body man. His legal bills are being paid for by Trump’s political organization.
The New York Times reports he is a native of Guam and worked with the president as a White House valet. He has a military background.
He retired from federal service after Trump left office and went on to work with him in private life at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL. Security camera footage reportedly showed him carrying boxes of classified documents in and out of storage after a grand jury subpoena.
Government officials accuse Nauta of giving false testimony in the case. Prosecutors tried to pressure Nauta into cooperating with the investigation, but the Times reports he declined.
