The Korean American contestant targeted with stinging racist remarks from a fellow Big Brother contestant was evicted from the show Thursday, while her attackers survived another week, reports Chron.
“Dude, shut up, go make some rice,” contestant Aaryn Gries said about Asian American contestant Helen Kim earlier this summer. Later, another contestant, GinaMarie Zimmerman adds, “Andy was like, ‘I’m gonna punch her in the face,’ and I was like, ‘Maybe that’ll make her eyes straight.’”
Kim is the second contestant who’s had to deal with racist incidents from the show to be voted out. Candace Stewart, an African American contestant, was also voted out earlier this month.
Host Julie Chen has said the remarks about Kim personally hurt her and reminded her of some of the racism she encountered earlier in life. Surprising Chen brought none of that up during her exit interview with Kim, instead focusing the failed strategy used by Kim in the game.
