Former California State Senator Richard Pan announced he’s running for mayor of Sacramento, reports the Sacramento Bee.
He would be the first Asian American elected as mayor of California’s state capitol.
We’re honored to have Jimmie Yee as our first Asian American mayor, but he was an interim mayor, not directly elected as mayor, so I am seeking to be the first Asian American mayor of the city of Sacramento,” said Pan during the Ronin Project Podcast.
He termed out last year as a State Senator. He is currently serving as a senior policy adviser to AAPI Data. according to KCRA.
He is the fifth announced candidate after Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, former council member Steve Hansen, Maggy Krell, from the state’s attorney general office, and Dr. Flojaune Cofer, an epidemiologist and community activist.
Fox40 reports some of Pan’s past accomplishments include keeping fire stations opened during the 2010 recession and the passage of a law that allowed the state to produce its own insulin and prescription drugs. He is also a major proponent of child vaccinations.
