Weijia Jiang is officially the first woman of color to be elected White House Correspondents’ Association president.
According to a White House Correspondents’ Association tweet, Jiang was the “winner of an At-Large Seat on the WHCA Board for 2023-26.” She will serve as president from 2025-2026.
In a tweet, Jiang thanked her WHCA colleagues for their “support and faith in me.” She noted that she was the first woman of color elected to the role.
“I know that it’s a tremendous responsibility, and I will treat it as such,” she wrote in her tweet. “As the first woman of color to take on this role, I will do my part to ensure that I’m not the last.”
The White House Correspondents Association is an organization of journalists who focus on covering the White House and the President of the United States. Their mission is to ensure a free press.
According to a press release from the WHCA, Jiang received 251 votes for president. Francesca Chambers of USA Today received 132.
CBS News, Jiang’s employer, tweeted their congratulations.
