Coco Lee’s estranged husband joined her two daughters from a previous marriage to co-sign an obituary to the international Chinese American singer, reports Asia One.
Lee had been in a coma following a suicide attempt at her home in Hong Kong on Sunday and died in the hospital Wednesday.
Bruce Rockawitz and Lee married in 2011 after eight years of dating, Metro reported.
“Coco was a beautiful person inside and out, warm and kind,” read her obituary.
“She was an accomplished singer-songwriter, a talented performer, a caring mentor to the younger generation, a beloved wife, a well-loved friend and a dear family member.”
According to Metro, reports that the couple had been separated for two years had not been confirmed.
Coco’s sisters, Carol and Nancy Lee, said their sibling had been battling depression. “Sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her,” they said.
The singer is known for singing the Mandarin version of Reflection on Disney’s Mulan. She is also the first Chinese American to sing at the Academy Awards, performing the Oscar-nominated song from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon– A Love Before Time.
The Sun reports that Coco had lunch with her mom and her sister Carol on Sunday. That same afternoon a maid found Coco after she had tried to kill herself.
She spent her entire life dealing with a birth defect in her left leg and dealt with pain her entire life. Issues with the leg worsened following a dance rehearsal last October and she had to undergo a two-hour surgery.
Her latest single Tragic came out in February.
