City officials announced recently that Fresno had been awarded over $43 million for capital improvement projects, Your Central Valley reports.
A total of $43,733,136 has been conditionally awarded to the City of Fresno through the Infill Infrastructure Grant – Catalytic Qualifying Infill Area (IIGC). The money is meant to be used to improve housing infrastructure in Downtown Fresno and the city’s Chinatown.
According to The Business Journal, the funds awarded to Fresno will help improve water, sewer, streets and parking to support up to 862 mixed-income housing units.
Fresno’s Mayor Jerry Dyer told The Business Journal the money will aid his vision of bolstering Downtown Fresno. The city’s goal is to increase the residential population from 3,000 to 10,000.
“These funds will serve as a catalyst to our revitalization efforts by accelerating housing, including student housing, in the Downtown and Chinatown area,” Dyer said on Twitter. “Great cities have great downtowns and we are well on our way to having a great downtown.”
