Employees at Abercrombie and Fitch will be allowed to wear Muslim headscarves following a settlement in a discrimination complaint filed by two Muslim American women, according to the Mercury News.
The suit was filed by Hani Khan, 23, three years ago after she was fired from her job for refusing to remove her hijab and Halla Banafa, who says she was denied a job at Hollister Co. because she was wearing a hijab.
Abercrombie had said the religious head scarves were contrary to the youthful hip image its stores want to portray.
“If it could happen to me in the Bay Area, it could happen to anyone,” said Khan about the company’s policies. “I felt it was right for me to stand up to it.”
