Shipping CEO Angela Chao, sister of Elaine Chao, dies in car accident

The CEO of shipping company Foremost Group Angela Chao has died in a car accident, NBC News reports. Angela was also the sister of former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao.

“Angela Chao was a formidable executive and shipping industry leader, as well as a proud and loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife and mother,” reads the Foremost Group statement per Hellenic Shipping News.

Chao was born in 1973 to James S.C. Chao, founder of the Foremost Group, and the late Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, NBC News reports. She was one of six children.

According to USA Today, Chao earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University. While attending Harvard Business School, she wrote a case study called “Ocean Carriers.” It is now a part of the required curriculum for first-year business students at the school.

Her father says she always had a love for shipping.

“[She] was a wonderful and inquisitive companion accompanying me to the office on ‘Take Your Daughter to Work’ days,” he said in the statement, per NBC News.

Chao became the CEO of the Foremost Group in 2018.
