A professor of Psychology from Stanford University has died of leukemia after an unsuccessful six month drive to find her a bone marrow donor, reports NDTV
Nalini Ambady was the first Indian American to teach in the University’s Psychology department.
“For nearly a year, she was in and out of hospitals. The last stint being in a Boston hospital where she was supposed to get a donor. However, the donor backed off at the last minute,” family friend Dilip D’Souza said.
Finding a bone marrow match for minorities is extremely difficult due to the lack of potential donors in the data base.
