Yee Leng Xiong is stepping down as Executive Director of the Hmong American Center in Wausau, Wisconsin. According to WSAU, Xiong will leave the role by the end of this year.
Two months ago, Xiong announced that he would be running the 85th Assembly district seat as a Democrat. He is presumably stepping down to focus on his campaign as well as other sectors of public service. He will maintain a smaller role within the organization, working on the Hmong Wausau Festival and the Hmong Museum, WSAU reports.
According to WJFW, the center said Xiong helped the organization lead new community initiatives, secure funding, expand outreach programs and establish stability as executive director.
“Throughout his tenure, Yee played a pivotal role in steering our organization through challenges and triumphs, including financial, community, and societal. His unwavering commitment, strategic vision, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in reshaping the Hmong American Center’s trajectory and impact within the community as well as nationally,” HAC Board President Bee Van Her said per WSAU.
Xiong, for his part, said he was most proud of serving as a mentor to nearly 100 youths in Central Wisconsin.
“They have shown exceptional dedication and alignment with the organization’s mission and focus,” said Xiong, per WJFW. “I am excited to see what this next chapter of growth will mean for the organization and for our community.”
