A grand jury indictment of a Texas woman accused of trying to drown a 3-year-old girl due to racial hatred is now public, reports Al Jazeera.
Authorities say it happened at an apartment complex swimming pool after Elizabeth Wolf, 42, asked the mother where they were from. Police say Wolf also tried to grab the girls six-year-old brother.
The mother frantically pulled her daughter from the water.
Fox4 reports Wolf faces extra prison time due to a hate crime enhancement on charges of attempted murder and causing bodily injury to a child.
“It had all the elements of a hate crime,” said Shaimaa Zayan of the Texas chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations.
Police say Wolf was drunk when she approached the Palestinian American mother and made racial comments.
The family is receiving support from Tarrant County Victims Services.
Police suspect Wolf was motivated by the war in Gaza and their religion.
