These are the elected AAPI Congress members so far

Despite the election loss of Vice President Kamala Harris — who would’ve been the first Asian American president of the United States — numerous AAPI candidates have won seats in the Senate and House of Representatives for the 119th Congress. Results for some races have yet to be called at this time.

Senate

Andy Kim, who currently represents New Jersey’s 3rd district in the House of Representatives, has made history as the first Korean American senator. As a Democrat, he will represent The Garden State in the Senate.

Democrat Mazie Hirono has been reelected to represent Hawai’i in the Senate. The Japanese American senator has held the seat since 2013.

House of Representatives

  • Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ): Ansari has been elected to represent the 3rd district of Arizona. She will be the first Iranian-Democrat to serve in Congress.
  • Ami Bera (D-CA): Bera has been reelected to California’s 6th district. The Indian American incumbent has served in the House since 2013.
