A woman traveling alone from Hawaii to see family in New York has not been heard from for more than a week as the family desperately searches for her with the help of the Los Angeles Police Department.
KTLA reports the family of 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi confirms it obtained video of her on November 11 in Downtown Los Angeles. In the footage which has not been released, they say she does not look well and seems to be with someone.
The family is especially concerned because they received alarming text messages from her after she landed from Maui in Los Angeles and missed a connecting flight.
“Messages saying she did not feel safe. She was worried about people stealing her money, it was after that those strange messages she went dark,” her aunt Laire Pidgeon said to NBC Los Angeles.
The family says they believe Kobayashi spent several days trying to get a connecting flight to New York but left the airport to explore the city while she waited.
According to USA Today, her family has arrived from Hawaii to Los Angeles to assist police in the search.
She is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds and has brown hair and eyes, and fair skin with freckles.
A GoFundMe page has been established by her sister Sydni Kobayashi to raise money to assist with the search.
“While the community support has been truly astonishing, the scope and intensity of the search are expanding, and so are the expenses with them. We still have not even been able to get any answers from LAPD or LAX and feel we need to continue to push harder to expedite the process,” she wrote on GoFundMe.
