India West: Poll finds most Indian Americans support arrest of Indian diplomat

A majority of Indian Americans support the arrest of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade for lying on her visa application and paying her maid well below the minimum wage, reports India West.

The poll conducted by Boston-based INE Media, Inc found 51 percent of Indian American polled say the arrest was justified.

56 percent disagree that Khobragade should be protected by diplomatic immunity.

Yet many also sympathize with the way she was treated.

43 percent agree with India’s strong reaction following the arrest. 38 percent disagree.

“We were getting very passionate and divided opinions on this issue and wanted to know the truth and find out what was really in the minds of the majority of Indians living in the United States,” said Upendra Mishra, president of INE Media Inc
