Bustle: The young woman behind #NotYourAsianSidekick. @suey_park

Suey ParkActivist Suey Park has made it a habit of late of taking it to Twitter to prod, provoke and participate.

The 23-year old Korean American from Colorado State University has a way of rallying those who agree with her, challenging those who disagree with her and, in so doing, generating the difficult conversations people often avoid in a multi-cultural society.

Park last month launched the #NotYourAsianSidekick hashtag that empowered Asian American feminists and their supporters to raise awareness of issues that often get overshadowed by the majority culture and larger minority groups.

According to Bustle, she followed that up with two more popular hashtags, #Nopologetics and #BlackPowerYellowPeril.

“I’ve always wanted to do something like that, especially as someone who does a lot of women-of-color organizing and seeing the problems of anti-blackness in Asian spaces,” Park said about her #BlackPowerYellowPeril hashtag.

With her #Nopologetics hashtag, she wanted to bring attention to the increasing number of people who make offensive comments and then apology by saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend.”
