Some things people just don’t get and to Tiffany Lew, Hollywood doesn’t get Asian Americans.
In her blog for Policy Mic she laments how Hollywood considers the yellow face episode on How I Met Your Mother a homage to kung fu movies, how movies such as 21 white wash stories about Asian Americans, and how even Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang plays into the overachieving Asian American stereotype.
Lew goes on and on with example after example about how clueless Hollywood executives are about the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States.
But she goes beyond that. She offers hope and a vision for the future of the depiction of Asian Americans in mainstream media.
Read her blog in Policy Mic and let AsAmNews knows if it leaves you hopeful, depressed or none of the above.
