Steve Yeun doesn’t mince words when asked about his prospect for future roles.
Despite his success on the hit AMC series The Walking Dead, Yeun told The Wrap producers aren’t exactly knocking down his door to get to him.
“People ask, ‘So, how are the roles now? You must be getting so many.’ And it’s like, I don’t know if you know, but I’m Asian still. I think that if I had not been Asian, I probably would have a whole plethora of roles, at least to audition for, but it’s just not what has been written.”
That’s why the 30-year old actor is turning to himself to create more roles and more opportunities for himself and other Asian Americans.
He’s executive producing and starring in The Aquariums of Pyongyang, a memoir from Kang Chol-Hwan which details the authors life in a North Korean concentration camp. He also has other works in development as well.
You can read about about those projects and hear about the first movie he has appeared in in The Wrap.
