8 Asians reports that two time NCAA all around champion Yoshi Hayasaki has been inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
According to the University of Illinois’ website, he is now in his 33rd season as head of the Fighting Illini gymnastics program. Under his direction the University won the 1989 National Championship and five Big Ten team championships to go with his countless individual honors. Three US Olympians have also come out of his program.
Hayasaki was named national coach of the year in 1989, has been named Central Region Coach of the Year three times and has also been selected as Big Ten Coach of the Year three times.
He was born in Japan, graduated from the University of Washington in 1971 and earned his masters from the University of Illinois two years later.
