The New York Museum of Chinese in American will present two separate exhibitions on Chinese Americans in the fashion industry in 2013, reports the Jin Daily.
The season kicks off with a panel discusssion, MOCAStyle: Female, Fashionable, New York. The event on Thursday will feature designers Mary Ping from Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Cynthia Leung, U.S. press officer at Balenciaga, and Creatures of Comfort owner Jade Lai. It will be moderated by Christina Moon, Director of the MA Fashion Studies program at Parsons The New School for Design.
The first exhibition will be Front Row, Chinese American Designers. The show will pay tribute to 17 Chinese American designers including Jason Wu and Vivienne Teng. the exhibition will explore the rise of these Chinese-American designers and their relationship to New York City. Front row will run from April 26 – Sept 29.
It will run concurrently with Shanghai Glamour: New Women, 1910s-40s. This exhibition will showcase 12 outfits from the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou and it explores Shanghai’s identity in relationship to its women and fashion.
