The screening of the hit movie The Joy Luck Club proved one thing, good movies hold up over time.
The Wayne Wang director film was shown at the Japanese American National Museum as part of its Big Trouble in Little Tokyo film series, reports
One male audience member acknowledged the movie moved him to tears.
After the showing a panel discussion was held.
Among those on a panel moderated by Phil Yu of Angry Asian Man fame were actress Rosalind Chao and director Wayne Wang.
The director admitted it wasn’t easy getting a Hollywood studio to back a film with a practically all-Asian cast.
Chao praised Wang for having the courage to change his technique to allow each of the character’s stories to be told in unique ways.
All those in attendance acknowledged that if the film were released today, it would have been done in a much different way.
