Federal investigators have concluded Princeton does not discriminate against Asian Americans.
The Office of Civil Rights in the Department of Education launched a review following complaints from Asian applicants in both 2006 and 2011.
In its letter to Princeton, OCR concluded there was insufficient evidence that the university discriminated against Asian applicants on the basis of race or national origin.” OCR in its investigation reviewed 15 years worth of admissions data.
It concluded the university’s use of race and national origin is consistent with “the strict scrutiny established by the U.S. Supreme Court.” It also found no evidence the University capped or limited the number of applicants who could be admitted from any race or national origin group.
“I am very pleased that the OCR has concluded this investigation not only with a finding that Princeton did not discriminate on the basis of race or national origin, but that the University’s holistic review of applicants in pursuit of its compelling interest in diversity meets the standards set by the Supreme Court,” said Christopher L. Eisgruber, president of Princeton in a statement.
