Several new Asian American competitors not previously featured on American Idol advanced in the competition last week and show promise, reports Hyphen Magazine.
17-year-old Adriana Latonio is the first semi-finalist from Alaska ever on American Idol. The Filipino American from Anchorage impressed the judges with her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s Ain’t No Way. Randy Jackson and Keith Urban gave her a standing ovation and declared “Now the Night has Started.”
Nicki went crazy over Chinese-Mexican Elijah Liu declaring “You are a super duper star, little boy. I wanna have your babies. I’m so serious. You’re 18 years old, you’re sexy, you’re my new favorite boy, I’m obsessed with you…I would sign you today. You have the most marketable face and voice and combination that I’ve seen tonight, and you’re ready now. Now! NOW!”
