A school district near Cincinnati is moving to block a family of an adopted Asian American girl who committed suicide from suing its school board and administrators.
In a lawsuit filed in 2015, the family of Emilie Olsen named the Fairfield School District, its school board, several administrators, employees and eight students they claim did the bullying.
The suit claims the family reached out to the district over a number of years for help to stop the bullying, but the district ignored them. Emilie was adopted from China.
Lawyers for the district says the board and administrators had no way of knowing the teen would kill herself. They also say the board and administrators have immunity from such lawsuits.
