A missing teen altered her school records to falsely list her 45-year-old boyfriend as her step father, reports NBC4.
The falsification of her records at Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania indicates why her school allowed Kevin Esterly to sign out 16-year-old Amy Yu ten times. The pair was last seen on Monday, which was also the last time Esterly’s wife, Stacey Esterly, saw her husband. Police have issued an arrest warrant for Esterly who police suspect had a secret romantic relationship with Yu.
“I just asked the police and I waiting and waiting and praying, and I don’t know if they can catch him or not,” the girl’s mother, Miu Luu, told ABC. She told the network that her daughter is close friends with Esterly’s 15-year old daughter and that she trusted Esterly because of that.
However, she became suspicious when she found texts from Esterly to Amy that appeared to be romantic.
Amy’s mother told ABC News that since her daughter turned 16 she had lost control of her daughter and would often have to turn to police for help.
Reports indicate that Yu and Kevin Esterly met in church where he was a Sunday school teacher, according to WFMZ. Police suspect the two could be headed to Mexico together.
They may be in a 1999 red Honda Accord, with a Pennsylvania license plate KLT 0529. Heavy reports police were called to a domestic dispute between Esterly and his wife at the couple’s home.
Prior to Amy’s disappearance, police had advised Kevin Esterly to stay away from Yu’s home. They had also warned his wife to stay away, but it is not clear why.
