Recently, Muslim Children Education Civic Center (MCECC) in San Antonio awarded a generous check to Child Advocates of San Antonio (CASA) and Hbond, for their participation in their 4th annual Fastathon, this past May during Ramadan. For their hard work and dedication, MCECC raised a total of $2500 for HBond and $9,500 for CASA, respecively.
Each year, MCECC holds a fastathon during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. During this time, they abstain from food and drinks (yes, even water) from sunrise to sunset for 30 days. So that non-Muslims are able to understand the struggles Muslims go through every year, MCECC encourages non-Muslims to join them in a day of fasting in exchange for $100 to be donated to a local charity. Additionally, it gives people an opportunity to get to know their Muslim neighbors.
