Chiyoko Otagiri of Oakland this month celebrated her 108th birthday, reports the Contra Costa Times
Otagiri is the senior most member of the Piedmont Gardens retirement community and the oldest Nisei in all of California.
Her birthday is actually on May 27, 1905 but when you’re 108, what’s the hurry?
Her family explains her longevity.
“My mother worked hard all her life and she always ate well — lots of fruit and vegetables,” said her 80-year-old son Jim Otagiri.
Besides, Jim, Otagiri has two daughters, Eiko, 85, and Kathryn, 83. Chiyoko has also has eight grandchildren, 11 great grand children and three great great grandchildren.
