Organizers of the Tet Festival in Orange County’s Garden Grove are vowing to find a new home for the Vietnamese American celebration, reports KPCC.
The Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of Southern California says its in talks with other communities, but declined to name any of them.
“UVSA is a community organization and has always looked at the festival as a community event. This event has been and always will be for the community.” said Nina Tran, president of UVSA.
Negotiations with Garden Grove broke down over the huge increase in fees the city wanted to charge the festival, $145,000 versus $30,000 in previous years. The city also accused the group of not donating enough of their proceeds to charities.
