SF Gate: California authorities stage big shark fin bust in SF

California authorities seized 2,000 pounds of shark fin from a warehouse in San Francisco and cited Michael Kwong, owner of Kwong Yip inc., reports SF Gate.

It’s the first major bust under the new California law banning the sale of shark fin.

Two lawsuits in federal court filed by Chinese American businesses claim the law is discriminatory and is aimed at stopping a centuries old cultural tradition of eating a Chinese delicacy, shark fin soup.
