An Asian American activist who lead a civil rights case against the Philadelphia School District will be honored by the White House on Monday, reports Philly.com.
Helen Gym has been named one of the ten Cesar Chavez Champions of Change.
She is founder of Parents United for Public Education and on the board of Asian Americans United.
A Champion of Change is described by the White House as someone who has”committed themselves to improving the lives of others in their communities and across the country,” and who “represent the values and steadfast determination of Cesar Chavez to organize ourselves for a more just tomorrow.”
You can read a nice profile piece on Gym done by Philadelphia Magazine.
