The UC Irvine Student Council voted 14 to nothing to condemn the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity for its party that offended members of the Pacific Islander community, reports the Daily Pilot.
Some who attended the party wore costumes that were culturally insensitive to Pacific Islanders, according to some critics.
The Council voted to form an ad hoc committee to further investigate the matter and meet with the administration to determine the punishment.
“If this was done to any other group on campus that has more people, the university would have issued a statement,” said Save Gasaiwai, a Fijian student at UCI.
A University spokesman says Phi Gamma Delta is not facing any punishment at this time.
The fraternity had no comment.
