Actress Ming Na Wen who co-stars in the hit series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC sat down with CCTV for a wide ranging interview about her “kick ass” character, her work in the movie Joy Luck Club and her voice over work for Disney in the classic Mulan.
She also touched on her experience growing up Asian American as a child and in Hollywood.
“For me I feel like there’s a part of me that has come full circle where growing up Asian American in society there are a lot of times where you feel isolated or out of place as an Asian and growing up in white America,” said Ming Na. “That’s absolutely my experience. I think that’s why I got into acting. I wanted to be anybody else but Asian. I wanted to pretend I was anybody else but Min Na Wen. But over the years and having children of my own, you start to realize how wonderful our culture is, how incredible our skin is, she said laughing.
Among the directors she’d love to work with are John Woo and Ang Lee.

RE: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Mind-Na on being Chinese American: Just maybe her “kick ass” role will prevent a fewer sexual hassassment incidents in college as well as date rape incidents…
That would be nice. But your wish seems a bit unrealistic. Having a daughter, I would love to be wrong on that.
