The prosecution says it intends to retry Madison, Alabama police officer Eric Parker in the police brutality case involving a grandfather from India, reports WAFF.
Prosecutors say they have a strong case and will retry Parker saying they were not concerned about the cost.
The jury deliberated for just two days and on Thursday told the judge they were deadlocked. The judge asked them to sleep on it, but on Friday once again declared they remained deadlocked. The judge then declared a mistrial.
Parker is accused of slamming Sureshbai Patel to the ground, leaving him partially paralyzed and violating his civil rights.
Parker pleaded self defense saying gestures Patel made threatened him.
Before announcing their impasse, the jury asked the judge about whether Patel was allowed to be without his green card and the justification for a police pat down.
The case gained nationwide publicity as the whole incident was caught on dash cam video.
