Marvel Studios has cast actor Benedict Wong as Wong, the Asian manservant and housekeeper for Dr. Strange in the upcoming movie scheduled to be released late this year.
Wong, the actor, played NASA Jet Propulsion Lab director Bruce Ng in Ridley Scott’s The Martian last year.
According to Slash Film., Marvel has made changes to Wong’s character to avoid troubling Asian stereotypes.
The character, which was originally introduced in 1963, has evolved in recent years and has been given mystical powers from the occult along with martial arts skills. He has also gone from manservant to sidekick for Dr. Strange.
