A boyfriend has been arrested in the death of a 19-year-old teen whose body was found decomposed in a vacant food court stall in an Atlanta-area mall, reports Fox5 Atlanta.
Authorities say Silling Man likely died from asphyxiation.
Under arrest is Emmett Davis, 21.
Police believe Davis suffocated Man two weeks before her decomposed body was found on December 21, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution
Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Jake Smith told the Constitution Man’s chest was “restricted to the point where she couldn’t breathe, as if someone sat on her.”
Man originally disappeared on October 8. A missing person’s report was filed, but she returned home two days later.
When she disappeared again October 10, no missing person’s report was filed. She would never return. She was found in December dead.
The Constitution reports the couple lived in a hotel near the mall and that she worked at the mall until November 20.
Man was a Zell Miller scholar at Georgia State University where she was a sophomore. She had planned to be a nurse.
“We did suspect the boyfriend all along so this news didn’t really come as a surprise,” Man’s aunt Bunny Cruz told Channel 2 Action News.
