U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) gave a brief speech to protesters in Los Angeles who were marching against the current administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy for undocumented migrants.
The “Families Belong Together” march on Saturday drew thousands of protesters in L.A., according to KTLA 5. The march happened in conjunction with at least dozens of others across the country.
Her main message: “We are better than this.”
“We are better than having detention facilities that are prisons where we house mothers who have been ripped from their breastfeeding children,” she said to a cheering crowd. “Where we have children being housed in caged crying for their mommies and daddies, we know we are better than this.”
