A cashier at a popular floating museum in New York City is being accused of reselling tickets and pocketing nearly $400,000 that would have gone to the non-profit museum, reports the New York Post.
Prosecutors said Daniel Lee carried out his scheme over a four year period.
NBC New York aired exclusive video of Lee’s arrest.
The Brooklyn man worked at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum as a ticket cashier. He allegedly reprinted tickets that had already been sold and then resold them to line his own pockets.
Workers are allowed to reprint the tickets sold in cases when the buyer has lost their tickets.
“The defendant would steal approximately $300 to $600 on a daily basis, by giving customers who made cash payments a reprinted Intrepid ticket from the prior day, not properly logging the transaction in the computer system, and then keeping the cash provided to pay for the tickets,” the complaint reads, according to the Post.
