Joe Biden knew he made a mistake the moment he said it.
Speaking to a group of mostly Asian and Hispanic voters in Iowa, the former Vice President said ” “We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as White kids .”
Immediately he corrected himself
— wealthy kids, Black kids, Asian kids. No, I really mean it, but think how we think about it,” he said.
Biden’s campaign explained in a statement that their candidate “misspoke and immediately corrected himself during a refrain he often uses to make the point that all children deserve a fair shot, and children born into lower-income circumstances are just as smart as those born to wealthy parents,” reported Vox.
Here’s a clip of what Biden said.
CNN reported that President Trump’s campaign immediately pounced on Biden’s misstep.
“Have fun mitigating that one,” Andrew Clark, Trump’s rapid response director, said on Twitter.
To that, Biden’s campaign snapped back. “The Trump campaign posting the video without the Vice President’s immediate correction is patently disingenuous — and it’s no coincidence this comes days after Joe Biden laid out how this president emboldens White nationalism and embraces racism,” deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said in a statement.

RE: Joe Biden Gaffe has him backpedaling to Asian and Hispanic voters: But this is how most white people think. He slipped? No, he said what is his bias. Politically he slipped. But it was not a slip from the way he thinks.
