In a follow up to the recent article Daniel Dae Kim leads Twitter calls for James Hong Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Kim and others are one step closer to their realization of a James Hong Hollywood star.
According to the Los Angeles Times, GoFundMe confirmed that with donations in almost all 50 states, 1700 donors raised $55,307 in just four days.
The fundraiser offered a half hour call with Kim, Randall Park, Ken Jeong, and Ming Na Wen, for anyone willing to donate $5000 or more. Although at the closing of the fundraiser the highest donation was $2000.
While the group now has the funds needed for a star (creation, installation, and maintenance), the application is still under way. According the to the GoFundMe page, the application will be submitted in 2021:
“…we will submit his nomination application in April of 2021. The Walk of Fame selection committee then meets in June to select an average of 30 stars (out of 200 submissions), to be cemented the following year. We ask that you allow us to hold these funds for two years. Though we’re confident we’ll be successful in 2021, in the unlikely event we aren’t the first time around, we will redouble our efforts the following year. And if for some unimaginable reason his nomination is not accepted either year, we will donate all proceeds to a charity in James’ honor. That’s a ways away, but it’s not too early to get started. We’d like to have everything ready to give him the best chance possible.”
