The Atlanta man who fell into a coma after being brutally beaten in July is making “tremendous progress,” according to an update from a GoFundMe page created for him.
Joshua Dowd, 28, went out with his friends and his boyfriend on July 11. Dowd eventually separated from his friends and was attacked with a blunt force object.
Dowd’s boyfriend believes he was a victim of anti-Asian hate but police have yet to determine a motive.
On Sunday, the GoFundMe page creators announced that Dowd was awake and alert.
“As I type this, Josh is sitting up next to me in a lounging chair,” the update reads. “He’s alert and just getting acclimated to being upright. He’s also breathing on his own!”
According to the update, Dowd also had a “very active” Saturday. He moved his head, arms and legs. He began occupational therapy on Monday.
“We can’t wait to see what exciting things he’ll do next,” the update states. “Please keep the prayers pouring in. He’s using every last one!”
