Rescuers in the search of New Jersey woman Lauren Cho said Sunday that they’ve found human remains in Southern California’s Yucca Valley where she was last seen.
The 30 year old has been missing since June 28. However, the remains have not yet been identified, reported NBC4.
Cho’s disappearance gained renewed attention after the media frenzy over the death of Gabby Petito. Critics accused the media of going into breathless news coverage whenever a White woman goes missing while people of color who disappear barely get a mention.
Authorities tell CBS News it could take weeks before the remains are positively identified.
Cho is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, 110 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a yellow t-shirt and shorts, according to ABC7.
CBS News reported Cho was in mental distress when she walked out of a resort where she had been staying with her boyfriend.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s dispatch center at (760) 956-5001 or Detective Ables at (760) 366-4175.
