Olivia Rodrigo, BTS score historical wins at 2022 Billboard Music Awards

The 2022 Billboard Music Awards awarded Olivia Rodrigo and BTS with several notable trophies.

The ceremony took place in Las Vegas Sunday night with Rodrigo, 19, winning the most awards in seven categories, according to E News.

Among the seven, she took home BBMA awards for Top New Artist and Top Female Artist. Additionally, her first album SOUR won Top Billboard 200 album.

Rodrigo made her debut with the single “drivers license” which is featured in the album alongside 10 other songs.

Rodrigo was not in attendance at the ceremony because she is currently touring with her album Sour.

Billboard stated her seven wins are one of the strongest by any new artist in BBMA history.

South Korean boy band, BTS also won awards in various categories.

Some awards the group won were Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Billboard Global Song, according to Just Jared.

Their single Butter, released in 2022, won Top Selling Song.

E News said the group’s third time winning Top Duo/Group ties them with boy band One Direction for the most wins in that category. This record makes the award a historical win for BTS and the BBMAs.

Since their debut, BTS has now won 12 BBMAs. Following the four wins, BTS fans have the new album to look forward to, which is set to release June 10, according to an E News article.
