A new documentary called Shohei Ohtani: Beyond the Dream will debut on November 17. According to The Hollywood Reporter will be released in the United States on ESPN+ and internationally on Disney+.
Ohtani, who plays for the Los Angeles Angels is one of the best two-way players in Major League Baseball since Babe Ruth. The documentary will discuss his background and journey into baseball. It will include interviews with Ohtani himself as well as players, coaches, managers, mentors and other baseball influences.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to share my journey in this documentary. Hearing the stories shared by my childhood heroes has been truly inspiring. I hope this documentary stands as a testament to the importance of resilience, passion, and self-belief in the pursuit of excellence,” Ohtani said in a statement to ESPN Pressroom.
Beyond the Dream is directed and edited by Toru Tokikawa, who previously directed a documentary called Art of the Game: Ukiyo-e Heroes.
Ohtani is one of the Angels’ most important players, but his contract is up at the end of the year. Many suspect he will move to another team in 2024 because of the Angels’ repeated failure to make the playoffs.
