Simu Liu used his superhero powers to host the 49th annual People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.
The star of Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings took jabs at Hollywood and such big buzz moments as Taylor Swift, Oppenheimer and his own movie, Barbie.
“Oppenheimer showed a three-hour drama about the moral complexities of creating the atom bomb could be a massive financial success as long as it came out on the same day as Barbie,” he joked.
The jokes didn’t stop there.
Beef “really proved that Asian people are just as multifaceted as everyone else. We don’t all just do martial arts. Ok, we can also be awful human beings with uncontrollable rage issues- then probably do martial arts. So you better watch yourselves,” he said as he pointed directly into the camera.
Then he took a dig at fellow Asian American actor, Jo Koy.
“”An Asian hosting a major awards show, what could possibly go wrong?”
Koy hosted the Golden Globes earlier this year and Koy has been openly critical about his own performance after receiving some bad reviews.
