Hawaii State legislators have formally recognized Bretman Rock for bringing positive attention to Hawaii and Filipino culture.
According to KITV, Rock was honored by the Hawaii House of Representatives at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 13. The Filipino Caucus presented the makeup artists and social media star with a lei and a certificate.
“Your influence reaches far beyond our shorelines and you’ve touched the lives of countless individuals across Hawaii and beyond, inspiring us all to embrace our uniqueness and celebrate our individuality,” said State Rep. Darius Kila (D), Honokai Hale-Nanakuli-Maili, per Hawaii News Now.
Rock was born and raised in Ewa Beach on the leeward side of Oʻahu in Hawaii, the Phil Star reports. He thanked the legislature for their praise in an Instagram post.
“I never thought this would ever happen, I was just an Ewa Beach boy twerking behind the manupua truck, giving MTV crib tours of my highschool and singing my boba song everywhere,” Rock said.
