Social media is abuzz over the alleged insensitive remarks from photographers directed at the Kpop group Stray Kids.
K.Moment labeled it “racism” on TikTok.
StrayKz143 called the treatment Stray Kids received “so rude” while CatchUpNews called the paparazzi “disrespectful.”
It’s customary at these high society events for high profile guests to pose for the media similar to the way they do on the red carpet at the Oscars, Grammys and other award shows.
Stray Kids is the first Kpop group ever to be invited to the Met Gala. As they posed, photographers could be heard uttering “alright idiots,” “what the f*ck” and “I’ve never seen so many unemotional faces.”
The group posed with their jackets on and then turned around, shedding their coats and revealing custom-designed suits from Tommy Hilfiger.
However, that wasn’t enough for the assembled photographers with one screaming “how about a cool pose.”
Billboard also called the treatment “disrespectful…highlighting the systemic barriers still faced by non-Western artists in Hollywood.”
The Korean Times described it as “discrimination and derogatory treatment.”
So far there is no comment from Stray Kids or the Met.
